Trooper, man wounded in gunfire exchange after traffic stop

MANCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper and a man who fled from a traffic stop have been wounded in an exchange of gunfire. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement both were hospitalized after the shooting late Thursday in Coffee County. The bureau said troopers stopped the vehicle around 11 p.m. and at some point the vehicle drove off with the driver firing shots and hitting a patrol car. Police put down spike strips and when the vehicle stopped, they say the driver got out and fired, hitting a trooper. Officials said troopers returned fire. Their conditions have not been released.
