“Everything in the Scriptures is God’s Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CEV)
The number one way God speaks is through his Word.
A lot of people wish God would just write in the sky what he wants them to do. But God isn’t going to write in the sky what he’s already written in his Book!
Everything you need to know God and live a life of purpose and meaning is found in his Word. If you’re never opening the Bible and never reading the Bible, then God isn’t talking to you very much—and you miss out.
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “Everything in the Scriptures is God’s Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live” (CEV).
God gave us the Bible for four reasons: to teach us, to help us, to correct us, and to show us how to live. Notice it says “everything” and “all of it.” Everything in the Bible is God’s Word, and all of it is useful. That means it’s 100 percent reliable and 100 percent practical. You can use it for every part of your life, for the rest of your life.
Some parts of the Bible are hard to understand. Some parts you’ll have to study more than others. But it’s all there for a reason: to help you.
This is why a consistent quiet time—where you spend time with God and study the Bible every day—is so important. If you’re just getting started, begin with 10 minutes. Simply sit down every day for 10 minutes and give God your attention and focus. You read the Bible and listen to him speak. You talk to him in prayer. You get to know him and let him teach you, help you, correct you, and show you how to live through his Word.
Why is it so important? Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path” (GNT).
The Bible is like a flashlight for life. It’s not a high intensity beam that’s going to show you the next three years of your life. Instead, it’s going to give you enough light for your next step, and then you trust God for the rest.
That’s called walking by faith. And you learn to do it by studying God’s Word, doing what it says, and taking it one day at a time.
