AHMEDABAD, India (AP) — Lokesh Rahul’s unbeaten 100 put India in control of the first test against West Indies as the hosts reached 218-3 at lunch on the second day Friday.

India leads by 56 runs after West Indies was bowled out for 162 runs in the first innings.

Rahul scored his 11th test hundred, and his first on home soil since December 2016, when he scored 199 against England in Chennai.

Dhruv Jurel was unbeaten on 14, with the duo adding 30 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership. Skipper Shubman Gill was out after scoring a half-century.

It marked the first time in 15 years that India played a home test without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin. The trio retired over the past season — their previous appearance on home soil against New Zealand last October was a stunning 3-0 loss for India.

West Indies has not beaten India in their last 25 tests — home or away — dating to 2002.

The second test in the two-test series is set to begin Oct. 10 in New Delhi.
