Battery Ventures, a global, technology-focused investment firm, today announced two new investing partners: Max Schireson, a former tech-industry CEO who has been working as an operating partner at Battery, and Roland Anderson, a veteran Battery investor who focuses on growth and later-stage companies in the business-software, information-services and enterprise-tech sectors.

Battery Partner Max Schireson

Schireson will leverage his decades of technology operating experience to make investments in emerging AI models, as well as companies building quantum-computing and robotics/physical intelligence technology.

For the last decade, Schireson—who first joined Battery as an executive-in-residence—has advised many of Battery’s cloud and data-focused portfolio companies on tactical and strategic business issues. He has worked with current Battery companies ClickHouse, Cypress, Databricks, Fundamental, InfluxData LogRocket, Machinify, Mattermost, Orkes, Quantum Art, Quantum Machines and Reflection, as well as exited investments Scuba and StreamSets.

Schireson joined Battery after serving as the CEO of open-source database company MongoDB. During his tenure MongoDB was ranked as the fastest-growing database-management system for two years by DB-Engines. Prior to MongoDB, he was an executive vice president and chief operating officer at MarkLogic and worked for nine years at Oracle, where he held several roles, including chief applications architect. He studied mathematics at U.C. Berkeley.

“Max’s deep technical chops and strategic vision, honed over multiple technology cycles, have been invaluable assets to the Battery portfolio companies he’s advised over the last 10 years,” said Dharmesh Thakker, a Battery general partner focused on infrastructure technology and AI. “Now, we’re excited to transition Max to a senior investing role, where he can find and nurture the most cutting-edge companies building on the frontier of AI. I can’t think of an investor better suited to dive into this new technology wave.”

Battery also named growth and late-stage investor Roland Anderson, who joined Battery in 2014, a partner. During his time at the firm, Anderson has backed technology companies serving multiple sectors, including vertical software in the automotive, construction, media and home-trades markets, among others. He currently sits on the boards of MadCap Software, RetailNext, StoneEagle, Signiant and Workwell Technologies and worked on Battery’s investment in online-video platform Vidyard. Anderson was previously involved with Battery portfolio company Newforma, which was acquired by Ethos Capital in 2023, and ServiceTitan, which went public on Nasdaq (TTAN) in late 2024.

Before joining Battery, Anderson worked at Symmetric Capital, a growth equity firm focused on software, technology-enabled services and healthcare investing across North America. He graduated from Bentley University with a degree in economics and finance.

“Roland’s proven ability to generate value across growth-stage and buyout investments, while working with several Battery general partners, highlights Battery’s multi-stage, thematic approach to the market—and Roland’s astuteness and flexibility as an investor,” said Battery General Partner Morad Elhafed. “We are thrilled to promote him to partner and look forward to him continuing to contribute to the firm’s success in the years to come.”

Both Anderson and Schireson will be making investments from Battery’s latest, $3.25 billion fund, Battery Ventures XV, which closed earlier this year.
