NEW YORK (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets have signed coach Jordi Fernandez and his staff to multiyear contract extensions.

The Nets went 20-62 this season and are 46-118 in two seasons under Fernandez. But they were a young team playing five rookies selected in the first round of the 2025 draft and believe the native of Spain is the right coach to continue leading the way.

“Jordi is a tremendous leader who, along with his coaching staff, put his stamp on this franchise from the moment he arrived in Brooklyn,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement Monday. “Over his first two seasons, Jordi has built a strong foundation rooted in player development, a competitive spirit and honest communication, all of which have been embraced throughout our roster."

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fernandez was the associate head coach of the Sacramento Kings for two seasons before coming to Brooklyn and before that was a Denver Nuggets assistant for six seasons. Fernandez also coached Canada's national team to its first men's basketball medal, a bronze in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Fernandez's assistants include Steve Hetzel, Juwan Howard, Jay Hernandez, Dutch Gaitley, Deividas Dulkys, Ryan Forehan-Kelly, Connor Griffin, Corey Vinson and Travis Bader.
