Kendrick Brothers Reveal Next Movie and It’s Unlike Anything They’ve Done

The filmmakers behind such faith-based hits as War Room and The Forge are venturing into uncharted territory with their next film. Alex and Stephen Kendrick, this month, unveiled their next project on social media, announcing that their upcoming film will be a remake of Flywheel -- and will be shot in Portuguese.

Flywheel was a 2003 movie that told the story of a used-car salesman whose dishonest ways catch up with him until a newfound faith in Christ sets him on a path of integrity and redemption. It was their very first film, preceding even Facing the Giants and Fireproof.

They are shooting it in the scenic backdrop of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"We've been praying about this for some time," Alex Kendrick said in a video from Rio's streets. "[We're] excited to be working with this team."

The remake, though, won't be named Flywheel

"We're updating a lot. The quality is going to be better and the title a little bit different, but the culture is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and we can't wait for you to see it," he said.

Stephen added, "The money hasn't come in yet. We haven't picked any locations yet. We haven't cast anybody yetand we really don't have all the crew. We just have a few people. So we're walking by faith here."

"We're gonna let the Lord do what only He can do," Alex said. "Feel free to pray for us."

Although the brothers didn't reveal specifics about the project, filming a movie in Brazil -- in Portuguese, no less -- will likely open doors for ministry in ways an English-language film could not, especially in a country known for its openness to the gospel. For instance, data consistently shows that Brazil is the second-most-watched country for The Chosen (which is unaffiliated with the Kendricks).

In a follow-up video, the brothers confirmed it will be a feature film as they gave a behind-the-scenes look at meetings with the crew, including producers, the camera team, and the art department.

The Kendricks have created some of the most popular faith-based films in modern entertainment history, including War Room, Courageous, Fireproof, Overcomer, and the 2023 hit The Forge. War Room soared to No. 1 at the box office, outperforming high-budget films from major Hollywood studios.
